I have been going to Dr. Dughman for about two and a half years now as our prior dentist retired. His original office and now his beautiful new office have been welcoming each time. Staff is efficient and calming. Cleanings have been thorough and they keep great records about a special numbing gel given to me before cleanings which has eliminated all the pain! Dr. Dughman is kind and thorough and explains things well for this nervous patient.
Our entire family sees Dr. Dughman, including my father in law. I am really happy to have a wonderful dentist right in Alameda on Bay Farm to see! Thank you!!

I’ve now had three appointments at Dughman Dental, and had a great experience every time. The staff is all friendly and professional and Dr Dughman is attentive and personable. I appreciate Dr Dughman’s attention to detail and willingness to answer questions. Special thanks to Lisa at the front desk for working with my insurance.
I would highly recommend Dughman Dental for anyone looking for a good dentist in the East Bay!

I brought my 5-year-old daughter to Dughman Dental in Alameda to have a cavity treated. During the visit, my daughter asked an age-appropriate question: whether brushing many times at home could remove her cavity.
In response, Dr. Dughman became visibly frustrated and scolded me as the parent, stating that he had many patients to see and sharing his views on pediatric behavior and scheduling. This reaction felt disproportionate and startling, particularly given that it was prompted by a simple question from a young child.
I shared that I felt caught off guard and that expectations around the appointment could have been communicated during scheduling. While Dr. Dughman later apologized, took accountability, and acknowledged that my daughter’s question was valid and led to an alternative treatment option, which we ultimately chose, the impact of the interaction remained.
Both my daughter and I left the appointment feeling shaken. Regardless of clinical skill or eventual resolution, bedside manner matters deeply in pediatric care. We will be seeking future dental care in an environment where children’s questions are met with patience and families are treated with respect, no matter the time of day or how busy the practice may be.
